Printing presses
The workshop is equipped with two high specification printing press for fine limited edition working: a Korrex Hannover hand operated test press, built in 1964, with a 700mm x 500mm bed; and a Schelter & Geisecke Phoenix IV hand-fed parallel art platen built in Leipzig in c.1905 and capable of printing a sheet up to 600mm x 420mm.
Printing types
Corvus Works holds a considerable quantity of Continental foundry type, in particular Hermann Zapf’s Optima, Palatino (including Michelangelo and Sistina), Hunt Roman and Virtuosa typefaces, along with Jan Tschichold’s Sabon-Antiqua. All available in a wide range of sizes from 8 to 48 point in both Pica Point and Didot systems at British and Standard/Normal Continental height-to-paper.
A substantial quantity of Walbaum type is also held, from 10 point to 60 point.
A number of display and single fount cases of type include: Schniedler Medieval and Legende, Futura Bold, Antique Olive Bold Condensed and Nord Italique, Goudy Text and Solemnis, Euphorian, Normande Italique, Deberny & Peignot Garamond Italic and Trump Gravur.
In addition to the printing types, a number of ornaments and border elements are kept in various designs including the rare designs of Hermann Zapf: Attika Borders and Künstler-linien (brush rules).
Binding
The workshop finishes and binds much of its work other than the more complex projects when specialist bookbinders are sought.
